Calder Race Course is an ideal place for Ride and Drive events for the Southeastern United States and for the East coast of Florida. Located about 20 minutes South of the Ft Lauderdale airport and 20 minutes North of Miami's International Airport, Calder Race Course is easily accessible for travelers. Located on the Miami-Dade and Broward county lines, Calder also offers great convenience for both counties and is a pleasant drive along the Florida Turnpike for Palm Beach residents and residents of The Keys. Calder Race Course is 2 blocks North of Dolphins Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins.

Available Dates for 2008
Our racing and horse sale dates take priority. Our racing season runs from April 25 through January 2 annually with simulcasting year-round. We also have up to1,800 horses on the grounds at any given time and have year-round training on our main/training tracks. Some dates are dependent upon your lot and facility requirements.

At this time, please note the following dates will not be available for rentals. There may be further dates not available pending agreements and requests being processed. If your date is still available, please complete the Parking Lot Request form above so we can review your particular dates and needs. Requests are processed by the date they are received.

Rental Fee
Once we know what lots you will be using, when your set-up and tear-down times are and the timing of your event, we can give you pricing based upon your needs. Our rental fees do not include our onsite catering, which would be contracted separately and based upon your event's menu requirements. Rental fees are comparable with the local marketplace and are not negotiable.

Frequently Asked Questions
We hope the information in this section will assist you in establishing if our facility will work for you. If you still have questions after reviewing this section, please give Tammy Gantt, Director of Promotions/Sales a call at 305-625-1311 ext 3406.

WATER - Do you have a water source on the property? With advance notice before you arrive onsite, yes, we can supply lake water and a driver/truck. Our water truck/driver works around our training and racing schedule. They are reached via Tammy Gantt at 305-625-1311. We can set up times for that service. There is a charge for the service above and beyond the daily rental fee, with a minimum of $300. The lake water will not be good for cleaning vehicles, as it is dirty. However, we can also supply well water. If you provide the hoses and road covers for them, we can run up to 3 hoses to the Northeast corner of Lot E. We also have a water source at the Northwest corner of Lot F, but you will need a side loading truck or device to access the water.

RESTROOMS - Do you have ADA compliant restrooms and port-a-potties available for our use? We have restrooms available in our facility during our racing season after 11:30 am, however we recommend portable toilets at the lot locations. A permit is required by the City of Miami Gardens.

PHONES - Do you have access to phones or phone lines? No, we do not due to the locations of the lots. We suggest cell phones or remote wireless.

PERMITS - What other permits are required by the city (tents, power)? City of Miami Gardens can tell you what is required, contact City of Miami Gardens, 1515 NW 167th St., Building 5, Suite 200, Miami Gardens, FL 33169; www,miamigardens0fl.gov; 305-622-8000 or 305-622-8008. For tents, category build permit, they require:
    1. Structural calculations for wind resistance
    2. Owner's letter stating that it will be removed in case of 75 mph wind or more
    3. Certificate of flame resistance
    4. Provide Fire Department approval
    5. Provide bathroom details with ADA requirements
    6. Plumbing permit application for portable toilets
    7. Miami-Dade County Health Department for Sanitary Facilities (1725 NW 167th St)
    8. Notarized lease agreement
    9. Electric permit application

DETAILING - Are there any regulations regarding detailing vehicles on the property? No

TENTS - Do you allow staking for tents? We prefer barrels for smaller tents (40 x 40 or smaller). However, we do allow staking as long as the asphalt is cold patched properly. If the surface is not repaired properly, there is a daily rate charge until it is corrected. We also suggest that you take wind in consideration when the tents are set-up so that they are adequately secured.

AIR CONDITIONING FOR TENTS - Kohler works very well with Diamonette for coordinating tent and AC set-up. The local Kohler contact is Gary Evans at gary.evans@kohler.com (web site - www.kohler.com).

ELECTRICAL - We do not provide electrical services, however we suggest these locals - Tri-City Electric and Fisk Electric.

UNION - Is your facility a union or non-union? The facility is non-union.

FOOD SERVICE - Do you have a catering / coffee service company on-site that we could utilize for our event? Yes, our food service company, RFM, must be used first unless a Right-of-Refusal payment or other arrangement has been recommended. RFM serves great food, provides good service and selections at a reasonable price. An on-site chef supervises the program. Ask for Jim Bennett or Craig Trimble at 305-625-1311 ext. 3269 or 3260.

SIGNAGE/BALLOONS/FLAGS - Signage to direct traffic into Calder is allowed, large heavy sandwich boards are recommended due to wind and weather. Check with City of Miami Gardens for a permit. Also, when placing signage on the corner of University and County line Road that is in front of the El Palacio hotel...please ask them first before placing those signs. Banners on our fences along the lot and along the road are acceptable as long as they are secure, but check for locations first. Large blow-up/hot air balloons are permitted -- but power to the lots is limited so you must furnish your own power. They cannot be near the racecourse. We suggest "Flags, Banners & Balloons" at 954-321-0430 or visit rooftopballoonsinc.com. Also, a variety of blimps, airplane signs, searchlights and blow-up dancers are available from Billy Magic at 321-868-4075 or 727-542-8371. No flapping flags or balloons are allowed on the side of the lots nearest the track.

POWER - We do not have power sources in the lots, so you are responsible for all power via generators.

SECURITY - Do you have a security company on-site that we could have assigned to our area? We have our own, but we do not provide security service for events and rented lots. You are required to provide your own security for any lots you rent, as we cannot be held responsible. We do suggest the City of Miami Gardens Police department at 305-622-8000 for recommendations on security. Generally their off-duty officers will assist, however they typically are in high demand so contact them early. We also recommend Florida Fugitive Recovery & Protective Service - AJ Flores at 305-395-7019 (former officers with excellent pricing). Also there is CSC Event Staffing at 305-624-8833 or fax 954-435-4722 but they are not specifically trained in security like the other two.

CROSSING GUARDS/TRAFFIC CONTROL - Do we need crossing guards? If you are using multiple lots, you are required a minimum of 2 crossing guards per lot between the lots, and even traffic control officers at the main entrance and employee entrance.

PARKING LOT LIGHTS - Does the parking area have lights? Yes from April 25 to January 2 we have lot lights via FPL, but you will want additional tower lights in Lot E and Lot F. We recommend at least two for the E and F lots due to the trees (although recent storms have diminished the tree canopies). We also suggest a corner light at the SW corner of the largest C lot. From January 3 through April 24, we do not have any lot lights. If you wish those lights to be turned on via FPL, we can do so and will pre-bill you accordingly. Advance notice before your arrival is required. We suggest contacting United Rentals at 954-667-3225 for light towers (early reservation as they book quickly).
If you use lights, they must be turned off by 5 am to avoid spooking the horses during morning workouts.

TRASH - Do you have dumpster(s) (as large as 20 yard size) on-site that we can utilize? Calder does not provide dumpsters. We suggest All Service at 305-888-5515 or United Equipment Rental at 1-800-800-7732 or 1-888-736-8488.

ACCESS - Does the property have access restrictions? Yes, depending on the time of your event, month of your event and days of the week for your event, there will be some restrictions. We will work with you to limit these restrictions to make it easy for your clients, vendors and crew to accomplish their goals. During the racing season, the main gates do not open until 11:30 am, starting October 16-January 2, they open at 11 am daily -- thus your clients will be asked to enter another entrance behind the hotel.

SHIPPING - Do you have any specific package delivery instructions / ship to address? We do not accept large packages, but a smaller manageable one is fine (such as a Fed box) as long as it arrives while you are onsite to receive it. Any packages arriving prior to your event onsite will be turned away , as we cannot be responsible for them and do not have space or staff assigned to handle them. If you have larger shipments and are expecting delivery to your area, please let us know and we will inform our parking and security staff to direct the delivery driver to your rented lot if the driver becomes lost onsite. We are not responsible for deliveries or misguided packages however, so please instruct all drivers in advance where you would like both large shipments and heavy equipment deliveries to occur.

EARLY DROP-OFF - Can we drop items off the evening before our planned set-up day? No, early drop-offs are discouraged due to our tight rental schedule, they will be turned away at your expense.  If they are dropped without our knowledge, you will incur a set-up day charge. We will not be responsible for your items.

ADVANCE STORAGE - We do not have the capability to store items before your rental date, however, across the street is Safeguard Self Storage (7950 Riviera Blvd, Miramar, FL 33023) It is a personal storage facility that offers climate-controlled, individually alarmed spaces with 24-hour video surveillance and PIN code-restricted access. Packing supplies available.

CLEAN-UP - What about lot clean-up? We will sweep the lots in advance of your arrival, but you are responsible to leave the lots the way they were found. There is a $150 no-refundable pre-paid fee required for each rental. Also, please clean up chalk or flour (if used) before it bakes into the asphalt. Any left equipment or additional clean-up will result in a daily rental fee at half rate until the equipment is removed and the area is cleaned. If another event is scheduled and your equipment/non-cleaning impedes it, a charge for removal plus the daily fee will apply.
