As the saying goes, "Good things happen in threes." It seems that the old adage has been proven at Studz Poker Club at Calder Casino & Race Course, where Studz paid out it's third Super Bad Beat Jackpot of the month on Saturday, June 26.
Saturday's jackpot was the third Super Bad Beat to hit at Studz Poker Club in less than three weeks. The first was for $111,622 on June 9, the second for $104,653 on June 19, and the third hit on June 26 for $51,065. After the second Super Bad Beat on June 19, Director of Poker Chris Trabue actually said that "these things happen in threes," and was proven right just one week later.
A "Bad Beat" in poker happens when a seemingly unbeatable hand loses to a better hand. Saturday's jackpot was triggered when a straight flush beat four of a kind. In the case of a bad beat, it's actually better to be the loser; the payout structure gives 50 percent to the loser of the hand, 30 percent to the winner of the hand, and 20 percent is divided among the remaining players at the table.
The $51,065 Super Bad Beat hit Saturday afternoon, after an already exciting day of poker action. Studz had most of the tables filled throughout the day, due to the $10,000 High Hand Saturdays promotion, which pays $1,000 every other hour for the high hand. Trevor C. of Miramar won $25,533 for having the losing hand of four 7's, and Charles T. of Miramar won $15,324 for having the winning hand - a straight flush to the nine. The remaining seven players each took home $1,459 for just being at the table.
