Averill Racing LLC and Silver Oak Stable LLC’s R Free Roll dominated the field to win the $65,000 U Can Do It Handicap at Calder Casino & Race Course on Saturday and set a new stakes record for the U Can Do It.

“She’s a really, really fast filly,” said winning jockey Edgard Zayas regarding the wire-to-wire win. “Just let her roll, let her relax by herself and she just keeps going.

The relentless pursuit of R Free Roll began immediately with the clanging of the gates, as she took the early lead with Indian Rain chasing behind. The exuberant filly hit the quarter mile in :21.7 while Indian Rain ran 5 lengths behind with Centrique and Salamara contesting for third.

At the half mile in a speedy :44.47, Centrique and Salamara powered on past Indian Rain, but were still of no concern to the unflappable R Free Roll, who surged into the turn. Centrique and jockey Eduardo Nunez gained some ground in the stretch, but their ephemeral quest for victory came too little and too late, as R Free Roll crossed the finish line 3 ¾ lengths ahead, stopping the clock in a stakes record of 1:10 flat.

"I feel that the filly is getting better and better,” said David Delgado, exercise rider for R Free Roll and assistant to Kirk Ziadie. “I know she loves Calder, and we had a really good chance today.”

“There was never anything I had to do in the race,” added Zayas. “She led me to the finish line.”

R Free Roll brought $2.80, $2.10, and $2.10 for the win. Centrique paid $2.40 and $2.20 for the second-place finish, and Salamera returned $3.00 for third.

Rounding out the order of finish were Indian Rain, Sherry Angel, Saint Aggie, and Cindys Casino.
