Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa’s Itsmyluckyday, winner of the Foolish Pleasure Stakes and the Fasig-Tipton Dash at Calder Casino & Race Course in 2012 and a leading contender for this year’s Kentucky Derby off his second-place finish in the Grade 1 Florida Derby, cleared the Calder stable gate at approximately 5 p.m. Friday aboard a Brook Ledge van bound for Louisville where he will start in this year’s ‘Run for the Roses’ on May 4.
“Today isn’t the big day,” assistant trainer Frankie Perez said when asked if he was anxious ahead of the approximate 1,068 mile trip on which he will accompany the colt. “The big day comes next week. This is nothing.”
Itsmyluckday is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs at 10 a.m. Saturday and will gallop over the track leading up to the race.
The son of Lawyer Ron worked one mile in 1:43.20 at Calder on April 18 in his final serious tune-up for the race. The colt returned to breeze an easy half-mile in in :53 on Thursday, one day ahead of his departure.
