Doble Jak Investments's 2-year-old filly Flying Trip won her fourth consecutive race to remain perfect in her young career after winning the $65,000 Cassidy Stakes at Calder Casino & Race Course's Festival of the Sun on Saturday. She was ridden by jockey Eibar Coa for trainer Gilberto Zerpa.
Flying Trip chased the pace-setting Ayoumilove and worked hard to get by her in deep stretch, eventually finishing three-quarters ahead of her rival and covering the six furlongs in 1:13.72. It was another three-quarters of a length back to Devilish Lady in third place.
A Florida-bred daughter of Trippi, Flying Trip was claimed out of her career debut for $12,500. Today's victory pushes her career-to-date earnings to $72,370. At the mutuel windows, she returned $7.80, $3.60, and $2.60
Winning jockey's quotes:
Eibar Coa - "She (Flying Trip) hasn't done anything wrong yet-that's the way I looked at it coming into the race. She did everything right, broke good today, and put herself into a good position. She was slowed up for a step or two (when Ayoumilove came out in front of her) in the stretch, but it was easy for her to overcome."
