All American Horses LLC’s Florida Sun overpowered her opponents in the stretch to win the $65,000 Leave Me Alone Stakes at Calder Casino & Race Course on Saturday.

“I just sat back and she did everything correct,” said winning jockey Kevin Krigger. “From watching her form from route to sprint I figured I’d have a lot of horse left at the end.”

Flutterby and Scandalous Act led the way in the early stages but were soon joined by Gumara and Twinkling Time. Scandalous Act quickly ran out of room and had to drop back to fourth as the leaders went three-wide to duel for position. Heading into the turn, they were joined by Curlin’s Gold for a four-wide bid for the lead. Heading out of the turn and into the stretch, Florida Sun dueled three-deep to ultimately pull ahead of Curlin’s Gold and then turned on the afterburners.

“Everybody was just finished up,” said Krigger. “She kicked home really strong.”

Fractional times for the 6-furlong race were :22.00, :45.78, and :58.57, with a final time of :1:12:00.

Scandalous Act, who swept the filly division of the 2013 Florida Stallion Stakes, gained ground in the stretch and dug in for place with jockey Eduardo Nunez aboard.

Trained by Mario Morales, Florida Sun came into the Leave Me Alone after a close second in the Calder Oaks in April, and a third place finish in the Honey Ryder at Gulfstream Park.

"She loves the track,” said Jorge Wagner, owner of All American Horses LLC. “She's very versatile. She can run a mile, a mile and a sixteenth, on the turf, wherever you put her, she runs.”

Wagner was proud to see his filly bring home the win, and was glad he changed his mind on a recent potential sale.

“I was in the middle of a sale and I didn't sell, so I feel good now,” said Wagner.

Prognosticators of the potential payout were handsomely rewarded. Florida Sun brought $19.20, $8.00, and $4.40 for the win. Scandalous Act paid $5.80 and $3.80 for the second-place finish, and Curlin’s Gold returned $3.20 for third.

Rounding out the order of finish were Boheme de Lavi, Twinkling Time, Nena’s Memory, Flutterby, Scat Daddys Breeze, Epona’s Grace, and Gumara.
