More than 132 golfers hit the links at the 19th annual Conine All-Star Golf Classic, one of South Florida’s most successful and longest running sports celebrity golf tournaments, on Jan. 21.
The event raised more than $240,000 for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation, which helps underwrite the operations of the Conine Clubhouse, a home-away-from-home for families of children under care at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
Hosted by former major league ballplayer Jeff Conine and his wife Cindy, with Calder Casino & Race Course returning as title sponsor, the fun-filled day took place at the nationally renowned course at The Club at Emerald Hills in Hollywood. The Club has hosted the event since its inception with all costs and expenses graciously donated by owners Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fineberg.
“We were thrilled to partner with the Conines once again and sponsor this amazing event,” said Austin Miller, president of Calder Casino & Race Course. “It is heartening to support such a wonderful organization and know that so many lives are positively impacted by the Conine Clubhouse.”
Players enjoyed a sports celebrity in each foursome and the opportunity to win valuable prizes at all 18 holes. Keith Byars, Lorenzo Hampton, Ricky Nolasco, Anthony Rizzo and Zach Thomas were among many celebrities who participated in this year’s event. With 33 teams participating, the Conine All-Star Golf Classic sold out for the fourth consecutive year.
“Over its history, the Classic has raised millions for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. We are thankful for the generous support from our sponsors and the local community. With their help we are able to provide patients’ families a comfortable place they can stay when their children are receiving medical care,” said Conine. “Special plans are already underway as we look forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary next year.”
Hole prizes included a five-day all inclusive vacation at The Villas of Punta Gabriela in Costa Rica, a trip to Breckinridge Colorado with seven-day accommodations for 10 people, a vacation package at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas with air accommodations supplied by Spirit Airlines, two Dayonta 500 all-access passes, get-away Florida vacation at the Eden Roc Beach Resort, a half-day deep sea fishing trip, and autographed sports memorabilia from Joe DiMaggio and Jack Nicklaus among other notables.
