MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 24, 2013) – Two-year-olds are the feature again with the $85,000 Birdonthewire Stakes and the $85,000 Cassidy Stakes for fillies this Saturday at Calder Casino & Race Course. The stakes will be held at 6 furlongs over the main track.

Gilbert G. Campbell’s Secret Kitten headlines the entrants for the Cassidy Stakes. The filly dominated the 5-furlong Catcharisingstar Stakes on the turf at Calder on August 24; in just her second career appearance, she led way throughout the race after breaking second from the gate and won by 4 ½-lengths. The Catcharisingstar came months after Secret Kitten’s maiden debut, which was May 30 in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race on dirt. Secret Kitten came second out of the gate then led the rest of the way to win her first career race by 3 ¼-lengths.

Rontos Racing Stable Corp.’s City in Sky finished seventh to Secret Kitten in the Catcharisingstar, taking her first loss in three starts. City in Sky reached her first career allowance victory one race prior in a 5 ½-furlong allowance race on the dirt at Calder on August 9, winning by 3 ¼-lengths. She earned her first career victory in a 4 ½-furlong
maiden special weight race at Gulfstream on July 13, by holding on to win by ¾-lengths after being the pacesetter.

Angela M. Ingenito’s Pomeroy Angel and Jerome G. Bozzo Trust’s Flutterby both come into the Cassidy off of their maiden wins to make their stakes debuts. Pomeroy Angel broke her maiden first time out on September 7 in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race at Gulfstream. She won by 3 ¼-lengths, after breaking second, going to the lead, and never giving way. Flutterby dropped back to ninth in her career debut at Calder on August 11 in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race; then she came back one month later on September 13 to win a 6-furlong maiden special weight race by 4 lengths going wire-to-wire.

Team Work Horseman Group’s Chinita Mia and Ron Hendrickson’s White Pants Night also make their stakes debuts in the Cassidy. They have yet to break their maidens. Cornejo Racing, Inc.’s Congrats Honey makes her career debut in the Cassidy.

The Cassidy kicks off the stakes action as the seventh race with an approximate post time of 3:30 p.m.

Post time for the first race at Calder is 12:30 p.m.

Hardway Stables’ Run for Logistics ships into Calder for the Birdonthewire, after running at Monmouth Park for all of the races in his young career. The colt is already graded stakes-placed after finishing third in the Grade 3 Sapling Stakes at Monmouth on September 1. His race was marred by a slow break from the gate; soon after that, his jockey’s feet came out of the irons, but the jockey was able to recover and move up to third. Run for Logistics had a better trip in his stakes debut in the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth on August 4. He came in second to Yes I’m Lucky, who won the Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes at Calder and is now a multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed after coming in second in the Sapling. Run for Logistics dominated his career debut at Monmouth by 5 ½-lengths in a 5-furlong maiden special weight race.

Luis Duco Stables Inc.’s Bluegrass Derby comes into the Birdonthewire off of a ¾-length allowance victory over 6 furlongs at Gulfstream Park on September 8. After breaking his maiden by ¾-lengths at Gulfstream on August 10 in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race, he finished 1 ¾-lengths behind to place second in the Calder Turf Dash Stakes on August 24 in his stakes debut.

Trinmove Enterprises Inc.’s Macho Trini and Equels Marro Racing LLC’s Pallium Prize return to stakes action after making their stakes debuts in the Calder Turf Dash Stakes. Macho Trini finished fourth after scoring two-straight victories, a 4 ½-furlong maiden claiming race in his career debut at Calder on June 22 and a 5 ½-furlong allowance race at Gulfstream on August 10. Pallium Prize has one victory and one third-place finish in four career starts at Calder.

Joy B. Carpenter’s Kennerly Road, Larry A. Bell’s Pachanga Party, and Champion Equine LLC’s Tea’s Two Step all make their stakes debuts in the Birdonthewire, after breaking their maidens. Dr. K. K. Jayaraman & Dr. Vilasini D. Jayaraman’s Mysterious Circle makes his stakes debut in the Birdonthewire, after finishing off-the-board in his career debut at Calder.

The Birdonthewire has an approximate post time of 4:00 p.m. as the eighth race.
