Calder the Only Place in Florida for Live Racing and Simulcast of Breeders' Cup

Tags: Racing News | October 17, 2012

Calder Casino & Race Course will provide Florida racing fans the only opportunity to combine two days of simulcast wagering on the 29th annual Breeders’ Cup with full afternoons of live racing as the Miami Gardens track is the only location in the Sunshine State that will offer both the full-card simulcast of the $25.5 million two-day event from Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., on November 2 and 3, along with the brilliance and pageantry of live thoroughbred racing.

Held for the first time in 1984 as a one-day seven-race event designed to showcase the top horses in the world, the Breeders’ Cup has expanded over the years and will offer 15 races as part of the 2012 renewal, with six races, including the $2 million Ladies’ Classic, to be held Friday, November 2, and nine races to be contested on Saturday, November 3, culminating with the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, the richest race in North America.

Throughout its existence, horses that have competed regularly at Calder have played leading roles in the outcomes of Breeders’ Cup races, with that fact never more evident than in recent years when Awesome Feather, Big Drama, and Musical Romance parlayed their south Florida success into Breeders’ Cup victories and Eclipse Award championships. Locally-based horses could prove prominent again this year as Musical Romance, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, is slated to lead the Calder team back to battle as she looks to defend her title in California.

The lucrative rewards available on Breeders’ Cup day will extend from California to Florida as Calder, in conjunction with Breeders’ Cup, will offer the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Pay Day promotion on Saturday, November 3. A digitally-based nationwide giveaway, the Pay Day promotion will reward all participants with a mutuel voucher ranging in value from $2 to $100, with one lucky winner awarded the grand prize of $500,000.

Guests can register for the Pay Day promotion through the Breeders’ Cup website at payday.breederscup.com. Once registered, a unique digital coupon will be sent via email that must be printed out and redeemed at a designated booth at Calder on November 3. Registration for the Pay Day promotion ends at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on October 31.

In addition to a standard wagering menu, the Breeders’ Cup will offer an Ultra Pick 6 with a guaranteed pool of $1 million on Friday, November 2, with a $2 million guarantee on the Saturday Ultra Pick 6. There will also be a $1 million guaranteed 50-cent Pick 4 on Friday, and both a $1 million guaranteed Pick 4 and a $2 million guaranteed Pick 4 on Saturday.

Post time for the first Breeders’ Cup race on Friday, the $500,000 Juvenile Sprint, is 4:06 p.m. (EDT), with the day’s last Breeders’ Cup race, the $2 million Ladies’ Classic, set to conclude at 7:30 p.m.  The first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday, the $1 million Juvenile Turf, is scheduled for 2:50 p.m. (EDT) with the $5 million Classic to be run in prime time at 8:30 p.m.

First race post time at Calder on both Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November, 3 is slated for 12:30 p.m.
