This Friday, Aug. 10, Calder Casino & Race Course introduces the all new Twin Spires Tavern, a casual dining establishment in the casino where the theme is “Food. Fun. Sports.”
An eclectic menu characterized by huge portions at reasonable prices awaits casino guests, who can dine in the Twin Spires Tavern from 5-11pm Thursday through Sunday. Most entrees are priced below $10 each in this sit-down restaurant with table service and cocktail service from the adjacent center casino bar.
Signature items include the “Bacon-N-Bleu Burger,” a blend of Angus beef and bacon topped with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and bleu cheese on a sourdough roll, served with thick-cut potato chips ($8.99); a BBQ Brisket sandwich, featuring most-tender, slow-roasted Carolina BBQ beef brisket piled high on a toasted onion roll with a side of coleslaw and thick-cut chips ($7.99); and the Chicago Slugger, an enormous all-beef grilled hot dog on a poppy seed bun topped with onion, tomato, relish, peppers, and a pickle spear ($5.99). Platters include baby back ribs, chicken and waffles, Cajun chicken sandwich, and a fried mahi mahi (Dolphin) sandwich served with mango slaw. Vegetarian options include an avocado salad and a grilled vegetable wrap.
Unique appetizers are offered in the Twin Spires Tavern, including warm pretzel loaves with dipping sauces ($3.99), homemade black bean and pork chili ($4.49), and Macho Nachos - a plate meant for sharing – loaded with ground beef and refried beans and topped with cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos, black olives, and pico de gallo ($8.99).
While dining, guests can watch current sports events on the 15 flat-screen televisions in the Tavern, as well as on three wall-size projector screens. Every seat in the Tavern offers clear views of numerous televisions for the guests’ viewing pleasure.
Live music will be featured on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights with performances by artists such as Leesa Richards, Bradley Brown & Friends, Oriente, Ruby Baker, Deskarga, Isaac & Val Woods Revue, Eddy Balzola & The Deal, Leslie Cartaya, and Sista Marybeth.
A special VIP-only event will take place on the evening of August 9, with the Twin Spires Tavern opening to the public on Friday, Aug. 10. Minimum age to enter the casino and restaurant is 21.
