Studz Poker Club at Calder Casino & Race Course paid out its first Super Bad Beat of the year on June 9. The $111,622 prize pool is the largest jackpot that Studz has ever paid out.
A "Bad Beat" in poker happens when a seemingly unbeatable hand loses to a better hand. Yesterday's jackpot was triggered when a straight flush beat four of a kind. In the case of a bad beat, it's actually better to be the loser; the payout structure gives 50 percent to the loser of the hand, 30 percent to the winner of the hand, and 20 percent is divided among the remaining players at the table.
Jean B. of Miramar won $55,811 for having the losing hand of four 5's, and Jeanette B. of Hialeah won $33,491 for having the winning hand - a straight flush to the seven. The remaining six players each took home $3,720 for just being at the table.
Jeanette's luck didn't end there, though. She won Studz' hourly High Hand with her straight flush for an additional $100, and later in the afternoon won $400 for another high hand of four 10's!
